Podcasts I Love

Surprise, surprise! I listen to more than just music— when I want to learn more about the world, about people, or about myself— I love listening to a good podcast. Here are some of my favorites, especially for road trips.

  • Pod Save America: The only political podcast you will ever need to listen to from four former Obama aides. As they put it, “It cuts through the noise to break down the week’s news and helps people figure out what matters and how they can help. They’re regularly joined by journalists, activists, politicians, entertainers, and world leaders.”

  • This American Life: What a concept— each week host Ira Glass, puts together a theme and takes us through a collection of stories surrounding that theme. Between surprising plot twists, interesting ideas, humor, and big emotions, this podcast is perfect for those who like stories to feel like they are unwrapping a surprise.

  • NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour: If you ever need to know what to read/watch/or listen to next I highly recommend listening to this podcast.

  • The Slowdown: This podcast, created by the former U.S Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith, is for all those who need a daily dose of poetry. No episode is over five minutes long, and the poems grace over a wide range of topics and ideas.

  • Global Dispatches: if you are interested in global affairs or foreign policy, human rights, and global development, I would def check this podcast out. Obviously, I live in America, and most news sources focus on American issues, so this is nice when I want to learn more about what is happening in the rest world. I think it is extremely important to listen to the stories of all who walk this earth- our justice, our equity, our rise- they are all tied to each other.

  • NPR Rough Translation: A podcast centered around how the conservatives we have here are being discussed all over the world. Host, Gregory Warner takes listeners around the world to follow familiar stories in unfamiliar territory.

  • Coffee Break Spanish: for anyone who wants to dust up on their Spanish, or start learning for the first time, this podcast is perfect for you. You will be speaking conversational Spanish in no time.

happy listening!
