Affirmations Over Resolutions

If you haven't already you will write resolutions for the new year. 80% of you will quit them by February. You’ll make excuses, go back to old habits, and wait for the cycle to start again. Resolutions can be helpful if you follow them— but the average person is terrible at holding themselves accountable. So let's try something new.

Instead of making resolutions, try making your own personal affirmations you can repeat to yourself on a daily basis. Live your life as if you already are the person you want to become— so that the person you are currently, only has to catch up.

The key is to not pressure yourself into acting or feeling guilty for not accomplishing something. The beauty in your journey is that it starts when you decide it to, and lasts as long as you want it. What else do you have that much control over? Don’t take it for granted.

I think I thrive on reflection. Observing my past behaviors, listening back on all I have said and impressions I have made. Trying to get a record of my existence, trace my humanness, and figure out if this is the me I really want to be. Let your inner voice be your guide for how you improve yourself in the new year.

Since my mind runs in a thousand different ways, it can be hard to pin down affirmations. If you are stuck or want a jumping-off point, here are some to get you started. I invested in some handmade cards from an Etsy artist, Dreamy Moons. Get them here . Here are a few from the pack that I love.

I SEEK BEAUTY EVERYWHERE I GO, WITHIN EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING I SEE.

I WELCOME MIRACLES INTO MY LIFE.

I RELEASE ALL NEGATIVE THOUGHTS OF THE PAST AND ALL WORRIES ABOUT THE FUTURE.

I DO NOT HAVE TO PROVE MYSELF TO ANYONE.

I LET GO OF ALL THAT NO LONGER SERVES ME.

I SILENCE MY MIND AND LISTEN INTENTLY.

I REFUSE TO GIVE UP BECAUSE I HAVEN’T TRIED ALL POSSIBLE WAYS.

I TRUST MY INNER WAYS.

TODAY IS A SACRED GIFT FROM LIFE.

I AM CENTERED, PEACEFUL, PATIENT, AND CALM.

I FORGIVE MYSELF AND SET MYSELF FREE.

I OPEN MY HEART TO LOVE.

I AM SAFE IN THE UNIVERSE. ALL LIFE LOVES AND SUPPORTS ME.

I AM HOME IN MY BODY.

I HAVE NO EXPECTATIONS AND MAKE NO ASSUMPTIONS.

I AM AT PEACE WITH MY PAST.

I CAN. I WILL.

Write these down and put them in a place you can see. Make your own cards. Record yourself saying something beautiful and play it back to yourself. Turn them into love letters, and watch your inner dialogue transform.
